Intellectual Property

As a pre-eminent patent-holding and technology development company in the organic photovoltaic technology area, GPEC has created a valuable intellectual property portfolio comprised of the key patents and technologies essential for Partner companies developing the exciting SM-OPV™ enabled products of the future.

GPEC seeks to capture both the intellectual property necessary for successful commercial devices – but also the understanding of basic principles in order to protect the key scientific concepts required for Partner companies to thrive in highly competitive markets.

With over 16 years invested in basic-science research in organic photovoltaics, GPEC's early entry (a decade before most competitors) has enabled the Company to develop a suite of intellectual property that the Company believes will be critical for any commercial venture seeking to build a viable organic photovoltaic business.

Key areas of intellectual property development have included new materials, device structures and nanofabrication techniques.  In addition, GPEC has supporting intellectual property in electrodes, absorption enhancement and other performance-critical areas. GPEC's fundamental portfolio addresses the key needs of both polymer and small-molecule commercialization partners.

To date, GPEC has secured the exclusive commercial rights to a broad and fundamental patent portfolio that has grown to include over 425 patents issued/pending worldwide, with significant international protection in critical current and future commercial markets.

GPEC has the exclusive world-wide commercial rights to all inventions conceived during the course of the Company's sponsored research programs.

GPEC's exclusive rights are for the life of each patent and all subsequent continuing filings.
