Photo Fuel™ - Photoelectrolysis - Chemophyll™
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe representing 90% of all matter. It contains more energy per kg than any other fuel and burns cleanly - producing water as the only bi-product. Yet, it is not readily available in a useable form on earth. Hydrogen is produced. Global hydrogen production is currently 500 billion cubic meters and is used primarily for production of ammonia, fertilizer and other hydrogen rich compounds and products. Existing commercial production methods include reforming of fossil fuels and costly electrolysis of water. Over 80% of current production utilizes natural gas, resulting in tons of carbon-based waste. Using fossil fuel to produce hydrogen is troubled by a continued reliance on a finite, non-renewable feedstock and the need to dispose of resulting
carbon waste.
The Opportunity
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Hydrogen Program has established a mid-term goal for displacing significant quantities of conventional energy with hydrogen energy. This goal implies a potential for hydrogen energy exceeding $17.4 billion annually, incremental to existing non-energy-related demands for hydrogen gas.
To reach the DOE goals a cost effective, clean, and environmentally friendly means of producing hydrogen is needed.
GPEC Breakthrough
GPEC is pursuing a novel and proprietary, solar powered, constant flow reactor technology that leverages The Company's ultra-low cost OPV™ technology and expertise in advanced catalysts to produce hydrogen.
GPEC is seeking to mimic the natural photosynthetic process whereby the chlorophyll in green plants is able to capture light energy (photons) and immediately convert that energy into a usable form for green plants. GPEC's hydrogen fuel production technology is based on this phenomenon, whereby photonic energy is captured and efficiently converted to electrical energy. The electrical energy is used to drive down stream reactions that will efficiently split water into hydrogen and oxygen. GPEC calls this technology "Chemophyll™"
Because GPEC's approach uses only sunlight and water, it will provide an infinite, clean and renewable source of Hydrogen fuel - or Photo Fuel™.
